This year marks a remarkable milestone: 150 years since the founding of the Divine Word Missionaries. What began as a small mission has grown into a worldwide community of faith and service. Here in Phoenix, we had the joy of celebrating this jubilee with the entire diocese. When Bishop John Dolan warmly invited us to celebrate at Saints Simon and Jude Cathedral, we felt it was the most fitting way to honor this historic occasion.

The jubilee was celebrated on Sunday, September 14. Bishop Dolan presided at the Holy Eucharist, joined by many SVD missionaries and diocesan priests, in a spirit of jubilation and fraternity. At the beginning of the Mass, Bishop Dolan congratulated the SVD missionaries and expressed his gratitude for our presence of SVDs in the Diocese of Phoenix.
In his homily, Provincial, Fr. Kirby, expressed gratitude to Bishop Dolan for welcoming the SVD missionaries into the diocese and for his constant support. He reflected on the dedicated life of SVD missionaries and the worldwide ministries we carry out. “We see all of you as our co-workers, our co-missionaries,” he said. He reminded everyone that our mission is possible only through the support, services, and generosity of the faithful.

One of the highlights of the Mass was the of-fertory procession. Flags from the countries of origin of the seven SVD priests serving in Ari-zona, along with the U.S. flag and the Jubilee flag, were carried with the bread and wine. They were placed at the altar, symbolizing our global mission and unity in Christ.

At the close of the Eucharist, Fr. Biju ex-pressed heartfelt thanks to Bishop Dolan, the concelebrants, parish representatives, and thecongregation. He reminded all present that “your presence today reminds us of the communities we are privileged to serve.”. The liturgy was prepared by Sacred Heart Parish, Prescott, and Holy Spirit Parish, Tempe. The reception and felicitation were hosted by St. Augustine’s Parish, Phoenix. The beautifully deco-rated hall and tables drew admiration, and everyone enjoyed a delicious meal. Fr. Yori, SVD added joy to the gathering with his lively singing.
The celebration was enriched by the presence of the Divine Word Bible Ministry from California and the Vocation Promotion Ministry from Chicago. Many participants visited their tables to learn more about our mission and ministries.

Thanks to the cooperation and support of the three SVD parishes, the celebration was a great success. It was not only a moment to honor our 150-year history but also a reminder of our shared mission of faith and service.
