Lunar New Year 2018, the Year of the Dog was celebrated at many of our parishes and facilities. Peter Zhai organized a great and grant celebration in San Francisco. The Principal celebrant was Most Rev. Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone, with concelebrants, Most Rev. Bishop Emeritus William Justice, Most Rev. Bishop Emeritus Ignatius Wang, Most Rev. Bishop Emeritus Daniel Walsh, D.D. and many priests and deacons. In celebrating of the Lunar New Year, we embrace and promote Chinese cultural traditions with Catholic faith, which expresses and manifests of the presence of the incarnated Word. After the liturgical celebration, we had an eventful New Year Banquet in the Hall under the Cathedral, which drew more than 500 attendees.
Our confrere Anthony Yang organized a celebration in San Diego for the Chinese community that he leads. The Mass of New Year and Ancestors Veneration was presided by Bishop John Dolon, the Auxiliary Bishop of San Diego and concelebrated by other priests and religious and the laity.
